Counting calories, obsessively weighing or measuring yourself, trying the latest fad diets, binge eating and excessive exercise are signs of disordered eating and body dissatisfaction. Perhaps you find yourself comparing your body to others, restricting certain foods or ignoring your hunger. Stepping on the scale dictates what you can or cannot eat or how much you should exercise on a given day. Disordered eating, body dissatisfaction and over-exercising have become very common and highly problematic issues effecting all demographics. When left untreated, these issues can have detrimental and long-lasting consequences.
During therapy we will navigate body dissatisfaction and exercise while exploring the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Using various treatment approaches, we will collaborate to create an individualized treatment plan that will decrease your emotional suffering and help you move your body as a form of self-care. We will explore what it means to be "healthy" amidst the constant messages in the media that tell us what we "should" be doing or how we "should" look.
You will learn to effectively communicate your needs and discover there is power in finding your voice. We will work together to practice effective coping strategies that will help you make peace with your body, find freedom from obsession and fear of judgment and develop a sense of control over yourself and your environment.
